Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a form of healthcare that focuses on correcting misalignments or subluxations in the spine. Spinal misalignments can cause tension, irritation, or stress on nerves, which causes the body to go into a state of stress instead of a state of homeostasis. Over time a body in this state will start to experience symptoms, ranging from pain, headaches, and numbness to organic or neurological issues. Although the Chiropractor’s intention is not to treat these symptoms, but to correct the spinal misalignment, many people experience amazing results with their symptoms decreasing or being eliminated.

What kind of tests are necessary prior to care?

All of the new patients that come into GRFC will have a consultation with one of the doctors of chiropractic. After going through your health history, they will determine what the next step in your care will be. Most of our new patients go through an examination that includes orthopedic and neurological testing, palpation, posture evaluation, range of motion testing as well as a surface electromyogram through our MyoVision software. If necessary, one the doctors will take spinal x-rays, but will discuss this prior to taking them.

Is an adjustment safe? Is it safe for children? Pregnancy?

A chiropractic adjustment is one of the safest healthcare procedures there is. Adjustments are a safe, non-invasive form of healthcare. Although there is no healthcare procedure that is completely free of risk, the risks associated with chiropractic are minimal. The most common negative effect of an adjustment is muscle soreness. Current research shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours!

Chiropractic care is absolutely safe and essential for children. Kids go through so much as they are growing and developing. Physical stress from the birth process, falls, car accidents, sports, etc. can cause the spines of children to misalign and lead to all of the same symptoms that adults experience.

The doctors of GRFC have a lot of experience with adjusting pregnant women and continue to learn more all the time. With 6 children of his own, his wife was adjusted throughout all 6 pregnancies with Dr. Alex Arguello adjusting her personally for the last four. More research comes out every year of the benefits of getting adjusted during pregnancy. Currently, we know that adjustments help with back pain, morning sickness, and reduction of labor and delivery time.

Why do I need to come in more than once?

The easy answer to this question is to say, “because we damage our spine everyday.” If that is true then we should be coming in everyday to get it fixed. We know that is not going to be possible for most people so our doctors recommend a frequency of care that is based on your needs, but work to get that down to the least amount of visits possible to keep your spine healthy.

Does my insurance cover my care?

We work with all insurance companies. Whether or not there is coverage for your care is dependent upon the insurance plan you have. We would be happy to take your insurance information and call your insurance company to receive benefits and eligibility. However, the majority of our patients do not use their health insurance because they find that our care is affordable without it. We believe that an important part of someone getting healthy is them taking responsibility for their health, included in this responsibility is deciding whether or not to make an investment in their health. We will give you all the information necessary to make an educated decision by showing you upfront what the financial costs will be prior to any care being delivered.

Why this route over Western medicine?

This is a great question. Western medicine has dominated the healthcare field for as long as we all have been alive. When people need to get healthy, most of them see a Medical Doctor with a Western medicine philosophy on health. The problem with this is we continue to get better and better at Western medicine, but our country continues to get sicker and sicker. Western medicine has not only delivered poor results for our overall health, but it is also very expensive. Many experts believe that the U.S. will go bankrupt in the near future due to medical costs. Why not choose an approach to healthcare that delivers better results and isn’t expensive? That’s what we offer at our office.
